Directory sources

We publish community-sourced academy listings so you can find places to train before an owner claims their page. A listing is not a confirmation of current opening hours, visitor access, fees, or schedules. Check with the academy before traveling.

The Owner verified badge means we have approved someone to manage the academy. Listings without the badge appear in the same directory.

Discipline defaults

When an imported academy name clearly includes a discipline, such as Karate, BJJ, or Muay Thai, we include it among the academy’s default programs. Owners can adjust these when they manage their listing. A name-based default does not confirm a current class schedule.

OpenStreetMap

Our initial US directory includes data © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0. We normalize names and discipline tags, identify state boundaries using US Census TIGERweb, and derive local time zones from coordinates using geo-tz and timezone-boundary-builder.

Download the September 11 directory expansion and attribution (JSON). This additional batch contains 833 community-sourced records prepared for publication. Records may be held or removed during later updates; search shows the current public directory.

Download supplemental phone and discipline information (JSON). This source batch fills missing details on existing listings. Source values and normalization notes are included; an imported detail does not indicate owner verification.

Overture Maps

Our nationwide expansion also uses factual place records from the Overture Maps Foundation Places dataset, release August 19, 2026. We retain the upstream source and license for each record, check US location boundaries, and hold possible duplicates or ambiguous locations. Source categories do not automatically become confirmed programs.

Download the published Overture baseline and record attribution (JSON). Source records use CDLA-Permissive-2.0, Apache-2.0 or CC0-1.0 as identified in the export. See Overture attribution. Time zones are derived using geo-tz and timezone-boundary-builder, including OpenStreetMap contributions under ODbL-1.0. Current academy pages may contain later owner corrections.

Tapology

Additional baseline listings use public names, street addresses and contact details from the Tapology gym directory. We check address locations with the U.S. Census Bureau geocoder and compare them with existing listings to identify possible duplicates. These checks do not confirm that a gym is currently operating or that its owner has reviewed the page.

Download the Tapology source batch and attribution (JSON). Source links and collection dates are included. Some candidates may be held during import; search shows the current public directory. Programs, visitor access, fees and schedules stay unknown until we have information about them.

Academy websites and corrections

Other initial listings were researched from academy websites. Coverage is still growing and is not a complete census of US martial arts gyms.
